Executive Summary

Overview

The What-If Pricing Solution is an end-to-end analytical platform that enables actuaries, pricing analysts, and underwriting teams to model the premium impact of hypothetical rate changes, coverage modifications, or market scenarios - without affecting live policy data or production rating systems.

The solution ingests in-force policy data, constructs scenario-specific rating payloads, invokes an external Rating Engine in parallel, and delivers consolidated results through interactive Power BI dashboards.

About This Guide

This Architecture Guide provides a complete technical reference for the What-If Solution Architecture. It describes every component in the data flow, the technology choices underpinning each step, the data storage strategy, orchestration model, and the AI-assisted query layer.

The guide is intended for platform engineers, solution architects, data engineers, and technical leads responsible for building, maintaining, or extending the platform.

Key Capabilities

  • Scenario-driven what-if re-rating of thousands to millions of policies in parallel using Apache Spark distributed computing.
  • Automated XML transformation from policy data to Rating Engine request format, eliminating manual payload construction.
  • Immutable audit trail - every scenario, payload, and raw response is persisted in OneLake for regulatory and actuarial review.
  • Self-service analytics through Power BI with interactive drill-through, scenario comparison, and row-level security.
